Just a pamphlet, yet still a pamphlet.
There is a lively season at Shinohara Shiko when art students come for a meeting about their graduation project catalog. The discussions are always lively and enjoyable, with ideas and suggestions from both the students and Shinohara Shiko. We were also responsible for creating paper materials for the exhibition, including the pamphlets.
This time, we are introducing pamphlets for the 2021 Graduation Exhibition of the Graphic Design Department at Tama Art University. When you think of a pamphlet, you might imagine it being square or in booklet form. However, the answer we came up with together with the students is a round shape.
When creating paper materials for event distribution, it is important to consider the presence of the item within the venue and the scenes that can be created through the pamphlet. This project is for an art university’s graduation exhibition, which will likely be a meticulously designed environment, where visitors from various generations gather around the words “design” and “art”. Instead of a square shape, I imagined people walking around the venue with a large round piece of paper, and I thought that the exhibition space itself would become art through the pamphlet. Even with just one sheet of paper, the possibilities for expression are endless depending on the folding and processing. With the addition of the students’ design skills to this proposal, I feel that a pamphlet that enhances the content of the event has been created.
